Michigan State University Press Internship Program
Michigan
State University Press is dedicated to fostering future publishers.
Our internship program is designed to expose students to the full
range of academic publishing experiences, including manuscript acquisitions;
editorial, book, and journal production; marketing; publicity; and
order fulfillment. Interns will have an opportunity to work with
freelance editors, designers, indexers, in-house editors, customers,
series editors, illustrators, and authors.
Applicants should possess excellent written and verbal communication
skills, a keen eye for detail, the ability to work with several
projects simultaneously, and good organizational skills. Applicants
also should possess a strong work ethic, a team spirit, and a healthy
sense of humor. Michigan State University Press provides a work
environment in which students are encouraged to learn not only time-honored
publishing traditions and industry standards, but to also explore
new directions, technologies, and trends in publishing.

Guidelines*
*The copyediting guidelines are
geared toward the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition. MSU
Press is in the process of switching to the Chicago Manual of
Style, 15th edition. An updated set of guidelines will be uploaded
as soon as they are available. During the transition, students
may use either manual as their guide on the copyediting exercise.
Please indicate in your cover letter which manual was used.
We will begin accepting applications for Summer 2006, Fall 2006,
and Spring 2007 positions, starting 3 January 2006. The application
deadline is 21 February 2006. Finalists will be scheduled for
an interview by 25 February 2006 and will be notified of selection
by 15 March 2006.
Please direct any questions to the Internship Coordinator,
