Cathryn Hankla

Cathryn Hankla is past director of the Jackson Center for Creative Writing and the MFA-CW program, and currently holds the Susan Gager Jackson Professorship in Creative Writing at Hollins University. She serves as Poetry Editor for The Hollins Critic. Hankla won the Shenandoah James Boatwright Prize for Poetry in 2009. Her short fiction was awarded a PEN Syndicated Fiction Prize. Her work has appeared in VQR, Mid-American Review, Shenandoah, Gargoyle, and several anthologies.

The annual New York Book Festival began in 2007 with the goal to celebrates books that deserve greater world recognition. Judging is based on the storytelling ability of the author and the potential of the work to win wider recognition. Categories include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s books, science fiction, photography/art, and biography/autobiography.
