Mennonites, Politics, and Peoplehood

James Urry

Mennonites, Politics, and Peoplehood is a comprehensive and potentially controversial look at Mennonite involvement with, and reaction to, political events over the past 450 years. With meticulous research, the author challenges the perception that Mennonites are a people with little interest or involvement in politics. Instead, he presents a detailed and complex history of political links between Mennonites and kingdoms, republics, and democratic nations during times of peace, war and revolution.

Concentrating on the Dutch/Prussian Russian Mennonite experience in Europe and Manitoba, Dr. Urry reveals that Mennonites, far from being the "Quiet in the Land," have deep roots in politics.
