Discovering the Peoples
of Michigan examines
the rich multicultural
heritage of the Great Lakes
State. This is an
informative, affordable, and
flexible collection of books
that explores Michigan's
ethnic dynamics. Michigan's
rapidly changing historical
and social structures have
far-reaching implications in
such areas as public policy,
education, management, and
private enterprise.
"Discovering the Peoples of
Michigan" reveals the unique
contributions that different
and often unrecognized
communities have made to
Michigan's historical and
social identity.
The series editors are Arthur
W. Helweg and Russell M.
Magnaghi. Arthur Helwig is
Professor of Anthropology at
Western Michigan University
and author of Asian
Indians in Michigan.
Russell M. Magnaghi teaches
history at Northern Michigan
University and is the
University Historian. In
2005, he was awarded the
Charles Follo History Award
at the 56th Annual Upper
Peninsula History Conference.
He is the author of
Italians in
Michigan.
Michigan State University
Press and its partner, the
Michigan Museums Association
(MMA), have been awarded a
$20,000 grant by the Michigan
Humanities Council, for
the "Discovering the Peoples
of Michigan" book series.
This is a part of the
Council's We the
People grant program, a
National Endowment for the
Humanities initiative.
